For four summers, Americans Promoting Study Abroad (APSA) has partnered with CGEL to support the participation of DCPS high school students in their summer Chinese language and culture program in Beijing - the China Scholars Program.
Now APSA is building on the success of this program to organize a major benefit concert in Beijing, scheduled for December 2011, in collaboration with President Obama’s 100,000 Strong Initiative. The concert will raise awareness of the importance of US-China student exchange, and raise funds to support more study abroad opportunities for US students from underserved communities, including urban high school students. We are thrilled that DC is one of the target cities, and anticipate that a successful concert will assist us in the development of our city's own 100K Strong China programs.
Secretary of State Hillary Clinton met with the Grammy award-winning musician and producer, will.i.am, of the Black Eyed Peas to discuss his support of the 100,000 Strong Initiative and the China concert.
